Agapanthus at twilight & at sunrise. Blue is my favourite colour in the garden 💙 I always know that summer school holidays are upon us when the agapanthus is in bloom.

These agapanthus die back every year, so are not evergreen but are hardy for our British winters. (Evergreen agapanthus are not as hardy & require winter protection).

Plant in a sunny, uncrowded spot & let the wands of spherical tubular flowers sway in the breeze. The blooms are such a good source of nectar & pollen for bees & other pollinating insects.

Either cut back seed heads when flowers are finished, or leave on for winter interest. For hardy varieties such as this one, you can tidy the leaves when they’ve yellowed, but I like to let them die back naturally & give some extra shelter for insects needing a place to nestle for a while.
