Verbascum ‘Snowy Spires’ is one of my top choices for any sunny bed or border. Its flower spikes of pure white with magenta eyes are stunning. Hoverflies amass on the blooms & bees love it too. 🐝
The flowers open from bottom up – when finished, deadhead the spent flower spikes & they regularly send up new ones later in the season. Verbascum are so easy to propagate either by seed or root cuttings, too.
‘Snowy Spires’ is also an excellent choice for a climate resilient garden, as their long taproot makes them a winner in dry, sunny conditions.
The last 2 photos show mullein moth caterpillars feeding on some of my plants – I let them be, as not only am I happy to help any wildlife in my garden, they also really do no harm to the Verbascum, as they will often send up a new flower spike later in the season that is unaffected. 🐛
